CWPT105 Literature in a Technical World - Considers the various genres of literature from classical forms to modernism to post-modernism and electronic literary journals. Introduces and examines works through the various critical approaches. Hours: 3

 

CWPT110 Humanities and the Professions - An introduction to the arts and humanities as they relate both currently and historically to the realm of work. Considers the role of art in communities, the historic work of the WPA, art as a motivator, and art’s role in work ethics. Hours: 3

 

CWPT120 Creative Process - Introduces students to the world of the imagination, pulling from various philosophies, psychology, brain physiology, and the artistic process as seen through the eyes of artists, writers, and musicians. Incorporates “cross-pollination” theories whereby students experiment with music, painting, sculpting, collage, assemblage, and film-making as a means of developing the imagination. Hours: 3

 

CWPT130 Contemporary Poetics - Introduces poetic forms from free verse to formalism. Students study the work of an array of poets and begin to create their own poems. Hours: 3

 

CWPT140 Art of the Personal Essay - Introduces creative non-fiction beginning with a look at the earliest essayists and progressing through today’s memoirists. Students begin to create personal essays or memoir pieces. Hours: 3

 

CWPT150 Workshop I - Students read and analyze each other’s original creative works in either poetry or non-fiction for the purpose of revision. Hours: 3

 

CWPT160 Contemporary Fiction Forms - Introduces the short fiction and novella forms. Students examine the works of modernist and post-modernist authors and begin to create their own works of fiction. Hours: 3

 

CWPT180 Workshop II - Students read and analyze each other’s original works of fiction for the purpose of revision. Hours: 3

 

CWPT185 Innovative Forms - Introduces post-modernism’s focus on language and experimental forms, including short-short fiction, multi-modal writing, book art, and language art. Hours: 3

 

CWPT189 Workshop III - Students read and analyze works for their final portfolio in the genre of their choice—fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or a multi-modal production. Hours: 3

 

CWPT190 Final Portfolio and Community Programs - Students organize and conduct a Creative Writing Institute for the community as well as a summer creative writing program for school-age children. Hours: 2
